Texas Liposuction Reviews

Liposuction Candidates & Limits

  • Am I a good candidate for Liposuction?

The first question you want to answer is what are your goals for liposuction. If your goal is weight loss or to get rid of excess fat with liposuction that is not a realistic expectation. We recommend you achieve your ideal weight prior to any surgical procedure as that will achieve the best results. There is a limit of amount of fat that may be removed, and your board-certified plastic surgeon in Houston, Texas will be able to assess this during your initial consultation. Also, the type of liposuction can be discussed at your initial consultation. Liposuction can be performed on both men and women.

For a BMI there is no cut off number recommended however those who have an optimal BMI can get better results. We will not turn someone away if they have a BMI greater than a certain number. Liposuction cannot treat excess skin and it can make the excess skin worse, instead it may treat stubborn fat in those problem areas such as love handles.

Combining liposuction with skin removal or cosmetic procedure such as a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty, mommy makeover, breast augmentation or with a body lift can help achieve the best results. Any liposuction procedure is not indicated if you have an abdominal hernia or rectus diastasis.

  • What treatment areas benefit the most from Liposuction?

This cosmetic surgery is best performed on a number of areas. Common treated areas include but are not limited to: inner thighs, outer thighs, love handles, buttocks, upper and lower abdomen, neck, back, chest, breasts and upper arms.

Due to Dr. Payne's incredible liposuction techniques, he is able to perform Liposuction on numerous areas at a time or perform in conjunction with other body contour procedures. The most common procedures include but are not limited to: tummy tuck (also known as abdominoplasty), breast augmentation, breast lift, butt lift, and mommy makeover.

  • Will liposuction eliminate cellulite?

What is cellulite, anyway? Cellulite is caused when masses of fat deposits are created in areas where a tight band of collagen are pulled down on the top of the skin. This ultimately causes dimples and and a lumpy appearance. Although liposuction will not prevent nor cure cellulite, it will decrease the amount of fat in the areas of concern and overall create a more even tone. These bands of collagen connect the skin to the deep layers of muscle and fascia. When fat builds up, a dimple will form.

  • How much weight can you lose with Liposuction?

Typically, we measure fat removed by Liposuction in volume. We can remove about 5,000 cc of fat in an average session which can result in 5-10 lbs of weight.

Liposuction Techniques

  • What is the difference between Lipo 360 and traditional liposuction?

The main difference between these types of liposuction is that 360 lipo is far more intensive and comprehensive. Lipo 360 creates a very defined and contoured appearance by shaping the entire midsection- 360 degrees around! This means the front abdomen, sides or flanks, and back are all treated at the same time. Wanna know another huge benefit? You will get to go home after surgery as an outpatient, and the procedure may only require local anesthesia.

  • Smartlipo Advanced liposuction

SmartLipo is considered one of the safest, most advanced methods to permanently reduce excess fat from the desired areas of the body while helping to tighten the skin. SmartLipo is a minimally invasive, in-&-out procedure performed under local anesthesia that requires only 2-3 days of downtime.

  • What is Tickle Lipo or Awake Liposuction?

Traditionally, Liposuction is done under general anesthesia. However, if we are focusing on small areas, Liposuction can be done when the patient is under twilight sedation. Local anesthetic is then used to eliminate pain with a tumescent solution for Tickle Lipo to be performed.

Liposuction & Skin Tightening

  • What is J Plasma™?

After liposuction the skin can be loose with excess hanging tissue. So we recommend J Plasma which is a procedure that uses heat to specific areas to tighten the skin. This type of procedure is noninvasive and has less down time. This procedure entails placing a device under the skin. The device helps contract the skin by using heat with Helium cooling.

  • What areas can J Plasma™ treat?

J-Plasma can treat arms, back, thighs, neck, buttocks, abdomen and more.

  • Are J Plasma™ results permanent?

J Plasma results are typically long lasting. Although, like every other procedure, results can change over time due to aging.

  • Can I do J Plasma™ only and see results?

Yes, it can provide significant results. Ideally, we combine J Plasma with liposuction to provide optimal results. Liposuction is used to remove excess fat and volume along with J-Plasma to tighten the loose skin achieving the best-looking results.

  • What are the benefits of J Plasma™?

Some of the benefits of J Plasma are skin tightening, residual downtime, little to no scarring and small incisions.

  • What is SkinTyte or Skin Tite™?

As you age, loose skin and pockets of fat can often occur. Skin Tyte is a non-invasive heating treatment that will help stimulate collagen production. Skin Tyte is combined treatment used with liposuction and radiofrequency to tighten skin. This will help restore and presents a more youthful look to the treated areas by removing unwanted fat and tightening skin.

  • Can I do Skin Tyte ™and only see results?

Although this procedure is longer than a standard liposuction, results are more effective due to the contraction of skin.

  • Am I a good candidate for Skin Tyte™?

An Ideal patient for Skin Tyte should be in good health. We recommend patients with mild to moderate loose skin for this treatment.

Before And After Liposuction - Pre/Post Op Instructions

  • How should I prepare for Liposuction surgery?

You will meet with Dr. Payne prior to surgery in order to finalize all the proper pre-op care. Some important steps include but are not limited to: no eating or drinking anything after midnight and also the morning of the surgery, avoid applying any topical products (makeup, moisturizers, lotions and creams) on any treatment area prior to surgery, and to arrange means of transportation to and from the facility considering you will not be able to drive yourself once your liposuction procedure is over. Please wear loose fitting clothes that are easy to put on and take off.

  • What should I expect during liposuction surgery?

Dr. Payne will create tiny incisions in the treatment area(s) and use a suction cannula to remove the fat. This popular procedure breaks down and eliminates the fat cells from the area of concern. During the process, Dr. Payne will use his liposuction techniques to contour the body into the toned appearance that you desire.

  • Liposuction Pre-operative care

It is recommended that you stop smoking or avoid secondhand smoke and any nicotine products for approximately two months prior to surgery. We recommend stopping aspirin, Motrin, herbal medications and NSAIDs at least one week before surgery. Avoid sun damage to the skin for at least two weeks prior to surgery and avoid any tanning beds.

Approximately 1 to 2 days prior to surgery use antiseptic soap in all areas of the body which can be found in a green bottle at your local pharmacy. You will want to clean the areas around the circle sites thoroughly including the entire body. Pay specific attention to cleaning the groin and general area as well as the belly button as these are areas where bacteria reside the most. We want to avoid any infection after surgery to ensure optimal liposuction results.

We recommend eating a healthy diet with high fiber low fat diet for approximately 1 to 2 days prior to surgery. This will prevent you from feeling bloated and gassy at the time of surgery. You will not be able to eat anything by mouth after midnight prior to surgery and the morning of surgery. You may drink clear fluids or liquids approximately two hours prior to surgery for instance if you have surgery at 7:30 AM then you can have clear liquids at 5 AM. The outpatient surgery center typically recommends drinking Gatorade or Pedialyte.

Do not put any lotion or make up on the day of surgery. Do not wear any jewelry or piercings to surgery. We do recommend wearing loose fitting clothes that are easy to remove and put on after surgery. The use of a button up shirt or a zip up jackets and sweatpants is recommended.

  • Liposuction Post-operative care

A compression garment is essential for achieving the best results after surgery for liposuction. A specific garment should be obtained and getting the right fit is important. Using absorption pads after surgery will help with any fluid leaking from the small incisions. We do not use sutures to allow for drainage of the fluid after surgery. During the surgery, using a cannula we inject a significant amount of fluid called tumescent in a number of areas that contains numbing medication such as local anesthetic.

This fluid will drain from the open wounds which will help prevent fluid buildup or retention and avoids any seromas or fluid collections. The use of foam is used to give accessibility to help protect the skin from the compression garments in certain areas and to provide more compression.

The skin will feel numb so you need to be careful that you don’t damage your skin. To help prevent the wrinkling of the skin on the treated areas avoid folds in the garment. This will allow for smoothing out of the skin. Prolonged indentations or creases can cause deformities and injury to the skin.

It is important you clean your garment in it in a timely fashion. Typically, should only have the garment off for approximately 15 to 20 minutes. This may not allow for you to clean the garment in the washing machine however it would be easier for you to remove the garment clean it with soap and water by hand washing it. Then you can dry in the dryer quickly and put the garment back on.

Some people will purchase a second garment that may be a little tighter than the first garment to assist with compression. Since there will be a lot of fluid that will leak from the incisions, we recommend using large plastic trash bags under the sheets or pillowcases or to get a mattress protector that is waterproof to help protect the mattress.

It is important you clean your garment in it in a timely fashion. Typically, should only have the garment off for approximately 15 to 20 minutes. This may not allow for you to clean the garment in the washing machine however it would be easier for you to remove the garment clean it with soap and water by hand washing it. Expect a lot of fluid leaking from the wound this is normal and should appear to be a yellowish red tinge in color. You can also use large towels to cover furniture and the bed to help protect and absorb the fluid leaking. We recommend to start walking the day of surgery. For liposuction recovery you need to avoid any strenuous exercise after surgery to help decrease swelling.

After lipo recovery time is approximately 6 to 8 weeks. You may shower after 24 hours post-surgery but do not swim or take a bath or submerge into a body of water until the incisions are healed in approximately 2 to 3 weeks.

We do recommend doing lymphatic massage after any body contouring procedures to help with your liposuction results which should be approximately 10 to 15 sessions after surgery. In the beginning the goal of the massage is to help with removal of fluid and re-draping of the skin and should take approximately 20 to 30 minutes per session.

These will be lighter massage sessions since you will have some pain after surgery. After several weeks have passed then you will begin to do 40-to-45-minute treatments to help with body contouring and smoothing the skin.

  • What should I expect during liposuction recovery?

Patients will need to wear compression garments after the procedure as over. It is expected to have edema and swelling a couple weeks following surgery. Typically, recovery time will be around 2-3 weeks and full results are seen 2-3 months if proper follow-up care is used. The longer a person wears the compression garment, the better the results with improved contour.

  • How to clean surgical compression garment?

We recommend you hand-wash your compression garment using soap and cool water. Do not use any fabric softener or bleach as this can damage your garment. Once garment is completely rinsed, you my let the garment air-dry overnight.

  • How to easily take off and put on liposuction compression garment?

First unzip your garment and open all support hooks. Put the garment on your legs. Fasten all the support hooks to help zip up the garment. Ensure all support hooks are properly aligned to avoid any digging into the skin. To take of the garment simply undue the support hooks.

  • Is pain normal after Liposuction?

Mild to Moderate Pain is expected after liposuction. Usually, pain is feels more like soreness. This lasts about 2-3 weeks. Your surgeon will give prescriptions to ensure that you will be comfortable during your recovery.

  • What should I Eat after Liposuction?

Your surgeon will recommend a healthy diet such as high-density lipids, drink plenty of water and exercise on a regular today basis. You should exclude foods such as salty and spicy foods for you to keep a more body contouring and slimmer look. It is best to avoid foods that make you retain water and feel bloated such as fried food, soda, refined grains, and preserved food.
